Training Philosophy

Training for triathlon, or training for any sport for that matter, requires two things, an understanding of YOUR body and an understanding of YOU. You are more than your VO2. You are more than your most recent race. You are your experiences, and that is what makes you great! We take a look at your goals and your training from two angles: YOUR Psychology and YOUR Physiology.

Psychology

Psychology is about you. It is about your experiences. Psychology in training should be no different. We all have baggage. I have baggage. I once sat homeless, wondering where my next meal was coming from. This behavior came from a deep longing for something more. It made me realize that there was more to life than the cycle and pattern I was on. The only way to motivate someone it to understand their past, their experiences, their failures. By truly knowing that, you can understand how to inspire and motivate someone. This is what drives me.

YOU succeed by being coached as a whole person. I give you the training, more importantly we look for cues as to what drives you. We look for reasons why you want to be better, why your triathlon training is failing. By fully understanding the whole person, YOU can succeed. We are here to help.

Physiology

Physiology is individual to you. Training for running, swimming, and cycling are very physical. Every person’s physiological makeup is different. Your heart rate max is different than mine. We have different body types. The only way to train for triathlons, marathons etc. is to understand these differences.

Triathlon training experience is individual to you. You have an unique combination of experience in each discipline. We use this information from your Garmin, Strava, or other activity tracking accounts to understand who you are, and where you are coming from. In order to best help you, we constantly adjust and tailor workouts to meet the demands of your life and training schedule.
